The shelters were developed in partnership with the Vientiane City State Bus Enterprise, JICA and the Department of Public Works and Transport and were designed to improve public safety by serving as designated spot for the city busses to board and alight passengers, and are illuminated in the evenings to double as a safe-zone for people.

The new bus shelter will also be equipped with free WIFI by Planet Online and GPS systems by JICA that will help commuters save time by providing more accurate bus arrival times.   These services will greatly improve public transport services in Vientiane Capital, and in turn increase commuter confidence in the public transport system.
